Technology Leaders Gather for New Internet Summit in Reston, VA
Largest-Ever American
Conference to Focus on Priority Government and Commercial Applications
of the New Internet (IPv6)
SANTA MONICA, CA (9.17.2004)
-- IPv6 Summit, Inc. announced today that the next major conference on
the New Internet will be held December 8-10, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency
in Reston, VA. This is the annual premier event for government and industry
decision makers to unveil their programs and products for the coming year
in a comprehensive set of presentations and panels. Limited registration
and sponsorship for the Summit is now available online at www.usipv6.com.
Two esteemed pioneers of the New Internet will be keynote speakers at
the conference -
Dr. Vinton G. Cerf, SVP of Technology Strategy at MCI (and world renowned
as a father of the original Internet) and Dr. Charles L. Lynch, Chief
of the IPv6 Transition Office at the Defense Information Systems Agency
(DISA, which has been tasked to spearhead the transition of the DoD to
the New Internet standard).
The New Internet, officially known as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6),
has been mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense as well as by other
countries and Ministries of Defense to replace the existing Internet standard
(Internet Protocol version 4, or IPv4), which has been in effect since
1973. The New Internet promises vast improvements in security, multimedia
transmission, and mobile and wireless online operations, as well as enabling
the Internet-based networking of billions of addressable devices that
will create many new commercial products and services. Details of this
transition, and the many important challenges and opportunities that it
holds, will be presented at the conference.
"The U.S. IPv6 Summit represents the forum within which the entire
world will see the nuts and bolts of the Department of Defense transition
plan to IPv6," said Dr. Lynch. "Industry leaders, ISPs, and
various international corporations will have a chance to meet with DoD
leaders and form strategic partnerships."
Attendees at the U.S. IPv6 Summit will be able to:
- Meet with government and Industry
executives to learn how the New Internet will affect their industries
and future contracts and programs.
- Learn about major international
business applications of IPv6.
- Get the updated Department
of Defense Transition Plan to IPv6.
- Meet with other government
and industrial leaders to arrange strategic alliances.
This conference will be of interest
to the CEOs, CIOs and technology managers of technology, aerospace, security,
automotive and consumer electronics companies, as well as to flag officers
and senior government officials and technology specialists in OSD and
the services that are involved with IT and C4ISR or with transformational
initiatives such as the Net Centric Force.
"In addition to the fine lineup of speakers we have scheduled, we
welcome the support of the DoD and the sponsorships and support of major
corporations, which have included IBM, HP, Cisco, Sun Microsystems, NEC,
Microsoft, Intel, NTT, Nokia, Nortel, Elmic Systems and many other industry
leaders," said Alex Lightman, CEO of IPv6 Summit and Conference Chairman.
"We expect this to be the largest and most comprehensive New Internet
Summit ever held, and believe that the attendees will get a profound return
on their time investment."
The U.S. IPv6 Summit is being held at the request of the Department of
Defense as well as Industry in Reston, within easy commuting distance
of the Pentagon, in a convenient and affordable venue that will facilitate
interaction between the many relevant decision makers within and outside
of government that will be affected by the transition. In addition to
the three-day conference, an additional one-day event is planned for attendees
interested in getting an introduction to both the basics of the technology
and the most important security aspects - both advantages and challenges
- of IPv6.
